extriCARE® 3600 Diabetic Wound Case Study EX101

The extriCARE® 3600 and extriCARE® foam dressing kit applied to a diabetic wound in a LTC facility.

The wound was first documented in the acute setting as an unstable wound. Debridement occurred on January 12, 2022. Post-debridement measurements were 6 cm x 5.8 cm x 1.5 cm deep. Measurements ten days later were 5.6 cm x 5 cm x 1.3 cm deep, and the wound bed was 70% pink and 30% eschar. On January 30, 2022, measurements were 5.4 cm x 6.2 cm x 1.4 cm deep, and the wound bed was 80% pink and 20% eschar.

Course of Treatment

Upon admission to the long-term care facility on February 18, 2022, the patient presented with a full-thickness wound to her right heel measuring 5 cm x 6 cm x 1.2 cm deep. The wound bed was 80% pink in appearance, 10% necrotic tissue, and 10% slough.

The ExtriCARE NPWT system was applied with dressing changes (using the extriCARE® foam dressing kit) performed three times a week.

Treatment Outcome

Upon admission to the LTC facility, the ExtriCARE NPWT system was applied, and within 3.5 weeks, the wound fully healed.

A 58-year-old female presented to the LTC facility with a wound on her right heel. The patient was admitted for rehab and wound care after spending 62 days in acute care due to COVID-19 complications. The patient has a past medical history of insulin-dependent diabetes, COPD, and arthritis.
